Julii ‘Peppermint Creme’ – 4 mos, 1 wk

07 Nov

4 months and 1 week old and I do say, I think they are finally growing.  I have the seedlings under fluorescent lighting with the light source a mere 1/2 inch above the pot.  Seems to be doing the trick.  But…just as the seedlings finally start making gains, I’ve run into a ladybug problem!  The ladybugs are coming in from outside, looking for a warm place to stay over the winter and seem delighted to find sweet succulent Lithops to curb their appetites.  I find ladybugs in the pot feasting on our seedlings every time I look.  Not sure what to do about this problem 😦

I looks like the seedlings are struggling .
Do you use PearlIght ?I have found it can hold too much water.
I switched to crushed lava,Turface,Rice hulls, small amount of top soil.
Seedling seem to like it much better.
    Good luck

Yes, they are struggling 😦 I don’t use perlite. I used to, but I hated how it would float to the top of the pot during watering. It was really messy to work with. I have a mix I’ve been using for years. It is similar to yours, but no rice hulls. I do use a bit of top soil with my seedlings also. My previous sowing efforts have been rewarded much more handsomely. I am just not having any luck with these ones :/
