Final Watering of 2015

26 Nov

I watered the Lithops for the final time on the weekend.  Now they prepare for their winter slumber and annual renewal.  It’s sad to know that they will be sleeping for the next few months, but I look forward to seeing their new leaves in the Spring 🙂

Here are a few of my favorites.  This represents 5 out of approximately 30 pots.  I’ll post more pictures as the weeks go by.

Do you cease watering for all, no matter what their state? I was wondering about a few of mine that have just emerged from the previous pair of leaves, which have just completed withering away… But I live in Hawaiʻi, where our winters are not severe, and day length suppression not as pronounced. Any advice. based on your experience? Thanks1

Personally, I am absolutely strict with my no water rule for the mature plants. Plants under 1 year old, I still periodically mist but their water intake is reduced drastically. Here in Ottawa, the temperatures get very very low so with the exception of the yearlings, I don’t risk having moisture in the pots once Winter hits.

Thanks! In Hawaiʻi it gets a tad cooler during winter but by no means cold. Nonetheless, I’ll reduce watering, treating all my plants as you do your yearlings.

OK, I’m officially jealous that you are from Hawaii 🙂
