My Favorite

I think, if something were to happen and I could only keep one pot of Lithops, this would be the pot I’d want to keep!

These plants are 2.5 years old and were grown from seed 🙂

Hi Sam! Yes, they are tall. It’s been my experience that Lithops will grow to the tops of their pots. In my case, if the substrate is low, the lithops grow tall to reach the top of the pot so they can gather the most sunlight. I have heard that tall Lithops could be due to over watering also, but I know, in this case, these plants have not been over watered. It’s also my observation that my Lithops that are planted in pots that have substrate right to the rim of the pot, don’t grow tall.

Lithops in the wild grow almost flush with the substrate they are growing in. This helps them preserve water and prevents them from frying in the hot sun. My pampered window Lithops don’t have the same concerns – haha! 🙂

These plants are approximately 1.5 cm in diameter. They live in a south facing window and are planted in a fine bonsai soil mix. I was hoping the plant in the top left of the photo would bloom this year, but so far I’m not so lucky.
