NEW Photo Catalogue

04 Aug

I’m creating a photo catalogue of my plants and will be keeping it here on LNL.  You’ll be able to access it from the list of Categories on the right.  I’m finding that, as my collection grows, I’m starting to forget what’s in each pot.  I also have started an excel database that calculates the age of my plants and keeps track of details such as where the seeds/plants were purchased, what substrate I’m growing them in, what color their flowers are, etc.  The excel database also has a numbering system and each pot is identified by a unique number.  I haven’t figured out how to upload it here so for now, the database is just on my laptop.

It’s interesting for me to see how my hobby has grown.  When I first started, my goal was to have ONE healthy Lithops plant on my window sill.  Because I couldn’t find any for sale in my area, I had to grow my own from seed.  My first attempt was a miserable failure.  I killed 160 lithops seedlings in a very short amount of time – 3 weeks I think.  Stubborn as I am, this failure led to a copious amount of research that led me to blogs, forums, and grower sites.  I learned about all the different types of cultivars and subspecies and I think that is where the addiction actually began.  How do you ever pick a favorite?!  They are all so beautiful!  Obviously, you NEED more than one 🙂

All this to say, we are going to have to endure a little pic spam over the next little while as I cataloque everyone.  I think the cataloque will be a useful tool now and in the future so best we get started while we are still relatively small!
